Vision for Men

Mike Ryan

I have a vision for all kinds of men to come together to worship and study God’s Word. I have been on many a retreat, conferences and outings for men. None seemed to have a long lasting effect emotionally, barely intellectually, and hardly spiritually. I yearned and knew others wanted also, a format to learn in, share with, and to grow in! Not all of us enjoy sports, or look to sport figures for guidance. Fewer of us have real life action heroes that we look up to or even admire. All of us needed something or someone that lasted more than a weekend.

Most churches (like mine, on the small side) usually have a majority of the same type guys, guys with same basic type of background, income and race. Most conference are geared towards same need or family situation. And so on and so forth…. There just had to be a format that guys could open up in and share, and study the Word together.

I firmly believe that the vision has started to come together with the joining of Fishers of Men bible study group and the one I have been with Men Mentoring Men. Fishers of Men are about 3 years old with our group being about 15 years old. I believe with us joining together, we have started our climb to a higher plain set by God. You wonder why I bothered with the names and longevity of each group. Look at the names, it shows the vision, goal, may I even say, the calling of each group. Both names follow the Great Commission, by reaching out with the Gospel and evangelizing, and the other teaching and exhorting men (disciples). The age shows just how committed the men are to stay together and to keep on keeping on with the strength of Christ.

Both groups have men who yearn to reach out to others, want to teach men how to be the best father, spiritual leader and worker they can be! Both groups attend each other’s studies, conduct retreats with each other and join forces to be at conferences, and to do things like, cooking for out of town guests, and offering hospitality to visiting ministers. We offer prayers in public together for visitors, serve food in cafeterias together and even call each other during the week, or even have lunch together. We are not ashamed of hugging each other, even in public! Oh, by the way , did I mention that one group is white and one is black? No need to, we see each as RED, as in the blood of Christ. We see each other as true brothers in God. Our race is different, our occupations are different, backgrounds are varied. But our future is the same, in Christ. In God’s eyes , we are all equal…………..

Let us teach you what we have learned, and are still learning.
